GM Invests $35 Billion in Electric Cars and Self-Driving Systems

 GM details its $35 billion investment in electric engines and self-driving technology, which GM wants to focus on. Zero-emission, batteries for electric engines and increase the electric vehicle market share in North America.


 GM invests $35 billion in electric cars

Most of the budget will be invested in engine plants and electric battery plants. 

GM plans to launch more than 30 electric vehicles globally, and plans to sell 1 million units by 2025. which is now more than 50% of Tesla

GM said: “An investment of $8 billion means that GM will be stronger in satisfying its customers with green electric vehicles. Not only will electric cars be more fun to drive and cost-effective. But the customer will have a new experience. And it encourages more consumers to switch to electric cars, which GM itself has the expertise in technology, capacity, scale and production.”

GM's core strategy is the Ultium platform, which will be used for the first time on the GMC Hummer electric pickup, followed by the BrightDrop EV600 commercial electric vehicle. Both Chevrolet and GMC electric pickups will be equipped with batteries in the Ultium platform.

  • GMC: GMC Hummer EV pickup, GMC Hummer EV SUV, and new pickups.  
  • Chevrolet: all-electric pickup Chevrolet Silverado 
  • Cadillac: Cadillac Lyriq, Cadillac Celestiq
  • Buick
  • Cruise: Cruise Origin
  • BrightDrop: BrightDrop EV600
